Organized Cycling Rides in Uxbridge and Durham Region
The Uxbridge Cycling Club offers a full season of organized group rides designed to help members ride safely, explore the best local routes, and enjoy cycling with others. Our rides take advantage of Uxbridge’s quiet rural roads, rolling terrain, gravel concessions, and trail systems across the Oak Ridges Moraine.
All club rides are led by trained volunteer ride leaders and operate under established safety guidelines.
Ride Types, Levels, and Pace
UCC supports several styles of riding to reflect the diverse interests of our members. Each ride listing in the club app includes distance, terrain, and expected pace.
Road Cycling
Road rides are offered at multiple pace levels so riders can choose the group that best matches their ability and goals.
- Red Group: Fast pace, typically 30 km/h or higher average speed
- Orange Group: Moderate to fast pace, typically 26 to 29 km/h average speed
- Green Group: Steady recreational pace, typically 20 to 25 km/h average speed
Groups ride together with a focus on smooth pacing, predictable riding, and safe group techniques.
Gravel Riding
Gravel rides use mixed-surface routes including gravel roads, rail trails, and quiet concessions. These rides are offered at a single pace, with riders generally staying together as conditions allow.
Mountain Biking
Mountain bike rides take place on local trail systems such as Durham Forest. The group typically rides together, with regroup points as needed to keep everyone connected while allowing riders to move at their own pace on technical sections.
Schedule and Sign-Up
A typical week includes:
- Wednesday evening‘date night’ social ride
- Saturday morning intervals road ride
- Saturday morning gravel ride
- Sunday morning road rides (red, orange, green pace groups)
- Sunday morning MTB ride
The ride schedule is posted in the club’s cycling app, which serves as the central hub for all ride information. For each ride, members can view:
- Date and start time
- Meeting location
- Strava route link including distance and elevation
- Any updates or notes
Members must sign up in advance for the rides they plan to attend. This allows ride leaders to prepare appropriately and enables communication if plans change.
Ride Leaders
Our volunteer ride leaders play a key role in making group riding safe and enjoyable. Leaders plan routes, communicate expectations, manage pacing, and help ensure riders stay together as appropriate for the ride type.
Members are expected to follow ride leader instructions at all times.
Safety Expectations
Safety is a top priority for the Uxbridge Cycling Club. Riders are expected to follow club guidelines and standard cycling practices.
Participants should:
- Ride predictably and communicate hazards
- Follow traffic laws and respect other road and trail users
- Maintain their bicycle in safe working condition
- Bring appropriate nutrition, hydration, and repair supplies
- Arrive prepared for weather conditions
- Helmets are mandatory on all club rides.
Weather and Cancellations
Rides may be modified or cancelled due to weather, road or trail conditions, or other safety considerations. Updates will be communicated through the club app.
Members should always check the app before leaving for a ride.
